The word endings -scope and spectroscopy derived from the ancient Greek verb σκοπειν ( skopein ) = consider. Most so a method or device technology ( spectroscopy ) or the associated device ( -scope ) is referred to, is something observed or measured with the. Not always are both endings, spectroscopy and -scope, each corresponding in use, especially not when there is no unique assignment of a device to an applied technology or no unique way to manipulate a defined device. The most common uses of the word endings - spectroscopy and -scope can be found in medical technology, especially in gastroenterology and ophthalmology.
There are also exceptions to the use of technical equipment word endings:
Demoskopie ( polling ) and " Demoskop " for pollsters.
Horoscope is a construct interpretation. The term " horoscopy " does not exist.
Hygroscopicity describes a property and is therefore mostly used adjectivally hygroscopic.
