Viiala

Viiala [vi ː ɑlɑ ] is a former municipality in Pirkanmaa landscape in western Finland. Since 2007 it belongs to the city Akaa.

The place is next to Viiala Toijala and Kylmäkoski one of three centers of settlement ( taajama ) of the City Akaa. It is located eight kilometers north-west of Toijala and nine kilometers north of Kylmäkoski at the mouth of the river Tarpianjoki in the Vanajavesi lake. The former municipality of Viiala has an area of ​​56.2 square kilometers (of which 5.1 square miles inland waters). The population number was 5,553 last. The community was Viiala monolingual Finnish speakers.

Originally a small village in the parish Akaa to Viiala end of the 19th century developed into an industrial center. 1873, a steam-powered sawmill was established. After Viiala 1876 connected to the railway network and received its own railway station, followed by a glass factory and a brick factory. The community Viiala was formed in 1932 from parts of Akaa and the neighboring communities Lempäälä and Vesilahti. The municipal area enlarged in 1946, when the community Akaa dissolved and its territory between the new market town Toijala and the communities Kylmäkoski, Sääksmäki and Viiala was divided. In early 2007 merged with Viiala Toijala the city Akaa.
