Vijlen

Vijlen ( Limburg: Many ) is a village of about 1,500 inhabitants ( 2005) in South Limburg and belongs to the municipality of Vaals. Vijlen is located at about 200 meters above NAP and is the highest village in the Netherlands. Furthermore Vijlen has reckoned from NAP, also the highest church tower. The top of this tower is located on 242 m above NAP.

Location

The village is located between epics and Vaals on the Mergellandroute, with views of the Geulvalley. For hikers, the ANWB - Mergelland route is a popular route through the Limburg hills, with a total length of 110 km for cars and about 125 kilometers by bicycle.

Due to its high hill in the extreme southeast Vijlen the region, with most of the first snow in the Dutch winter and also with the largest amounts of snow a year.

The village Vijlen includes the hamlet Camerig, Harles, Rott, Melleschet and Cottessen. Here you can see even old half-timbered houses. There are many campsites and apartments in this for the Netherlands otherwise atypical landscape.
