Viktor Bolkhovitinov

Viktor Fyodorovich Bolchowitinow (Russian Виктор Фёдорович Болховитинов, scientific transliteration Viktor Fedorovic Bolchovitinov; * 23 Januarjul / February 4 1899greg in Saratov, .. † January 29, 1970 in Moscow) was a Soviet aircraft designer.

Life

Bolchowitinow came in 1919 for the first time in aeronautical engineering in touch. He went to the Zhukovsky Academy and in 1924 designed his first glider. In 1926, he left as one of the first students this Academy with a degree. Under his leadership in the years 1934-1936 the bomber prototype DB -A, who set in maximum altitude reached in November 1936 world records (10,000 kg Payload: 7032 m; 13000 kg: 4535 m).

Bolchowitinow joined the CPSU in 1937 and received its own chair at the Zhukovsky Academy. In 1938 he began the construction of jet-propelled aircraft. Because of its results in 1939 he was chief designer of OKB 293 in Khimki, which specifically dealt with the development of rocket aircraft. These efforts led to the 1940 trial of a first, equipped with a liquid -propellant rocket engine rebuilt glider, the project RP- 318- I, which first flew on 28 February 1940. These experiments led to the development of the rocket hunter Beresnjak - Isayev BI-1, which was created under the direction Bolchowitinow and was tested.

In 1943 he was appointed Major-General of the aviation engineering service, 1947, he received a doctorate in technical sciences in 1949 and then appointed him to a professor at the Zhukovsky Academy for his work Bolchowitinow was twice awarded the Order of Lenin. He wrote prolifically on aeronautical engineering.
