Viktor Konovalenko

Viktor Sergeyevich Konowalenko (Russian Виктор Сергеевич Коноваленко; born March 11, 1938 in Gorky, Russian SFSR, † February 20, 1996 in Nizhny Novgorod ) was a Russian professional ice hockey goaltender.

Career

His career began in 1956 with his hometown club Torpedo Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo ), here he stood until 1972 in 450 games on the ice. During this time he was also a member of the Soviet national ice hockey team, with whom he eight gold medals and one bronze medal won nine World Ice Hockey Championships. In addition, he participated in two Olympic Games and won the gold medal both times (1964 and 1968). At the end of his career, he met another - still young - have scored, Vladislav Tretiak.

In his hometown, the ice rink, the " Konowalenko Sports Palace ", was named after him. In 2007 he was honored for his achievements with induction into the IIHF Hall of Fame. As early as 1963 he was accepted into the Russian and Soviet Hockey Hall of Fame.
