Viktor Yakushev

Viktor Yakushev Prochorowitsch (Russian Виктор Прохорович Якушев; born November 16, 1937 in Moscow, † July 5, 2001 ) was a Russian ice hockey player.

Career

During his career, the striker played at HK Lokomotiv Moscow. In all, he scored 162 goals in 400 games in the Soviet league. He was appointed to the team of the Soviet national ice hockey team early on. On January 1, 1959, he was in a game against the United States for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. His international career was crowned with the gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games in 1964. Four years earlier, he had already won the bronze medal with his team. For the national team, he scored 50 goals in 134 internationals. The Ice Hockey World Championships in 1964 he was elected to the All-Star team and was a four-time world champion his team (1963, 1965, 1966 and 1967 ). In 1963 he was inducted into the "Russian Hockey Hall of Fame". On January 24, 1968 he played his last international match. Yakushev was attacked by a group of youths in the streets of Moscow and died on 5 July 2001 at the age of 64 years to his injuries.
