Vilayanur S. Ramachandran

Vilayanur S. Ramachandran ( born 1951 in Tamil Nadu, India) is an Indian, working in the U.S. neurologist. He currently lives in San Diego, California.

Biography

Vilayanur S. Ramachandran was born in 1951 as the son of an Indian diplomat and academic family in India. He completed a medical degree in 1974 at the Stanley Medical College in Madras ( India). At this time, his interests lay in surgery. He received in 1978 at the University of Cambridge, where he studied under the direction of David Whitteridge human psychophysics and neurophysiology his doctorate degree.

Since 1998 he has been a professor at the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, University of California, San Diego, where he also teaches at the Salk Institute by Nobel laureate Francis Crick. In addition, he directs the Center for Brain and Cognition.

Research
