Vilhelmina

Vilhelmina ( South Sami: Vualtjere ) is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Västerbotten County and the historic province of Lapland. Vilhelmina lies on the River Ångermanälven and is the capital of the municipality of the same name.

History

Until 1799 it was known as Volgsjö, then he was sent to the Swedish Queen Frederika Dorothea Wilhelmina of Baden, the king Gustav IV Adolf woman named.

The city received in 1917 and 1947, different levels of city law. 1921 many of the then 75 wooden houses in the town were destroyed by fire. Today there are still around 20 houses from this period can be seen.

Since February 16, 1918, there is a rail link to Östersund through the Inland Railway.
