Viliam Široký

Viliam Široký ( born May 31, 1902 in Bratislava, † October 6, 1971 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak politician of the Communist Party (CCP).

Life

Was Široký first deputy prime minister in the government of Czechoslovakia Klement Gottwald I of 1946 and on 14 March 1950 and Foreign Minister in the government Antonín Zápotocký. As these 1953 became president on March 21, he followed him to the post of prime minister. As Zápotocký on November 13, 1957 passed away, he was under the Constitution from 13 to 19 November 1957 Acting President.

He was one of the pioneers and Protagonisaten the political show trials in the 1950s. His term in office was on July 11, 1960, the renaming of the Czechoslovak Republic in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic ( Československé socialistická republika, CSSR ).

After ten years in office, he was replaced on September 19, 1963 by Jozef Lenárt as Prime Minister.
