Villa del Trebbio
The Villa del Trebbio is an early Medici villa in Tuscany. She stands near San Piero a Sieve in the Mugello territory. It was one of the first Medici villas outside Florence and displays hills in a dominating position also by building type here yet defensive character.
Il Trebbio (derived from the Latin trivium for fork ) was owned by Giovanni di Bicci de ' Medici, the founder of Banco Medici. His son and heir, Cosimo de ' Medici, it was after Giovanni's death ( 1428 ) of his house architect Michelozzo, even like a fortress expand.
A terrace garden with two pergolas, however, was already used by Cosimo as a place of rest and relaxation (obtained is only the upper pergola ). Cosimo I de ' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany hunted like to be here and had converted the villa, his son Ferdinando I de' Medici also stopped like here on. Ferdinando II de ' Medici sold the estate in 1644 but Giuliano Serragli and this gave it the Oratorians.
The villa is currently (2011) in private ownership. However, there are limited possibilities of visits.
