Villages with fortified churches in Transylvania

Seven fortified churches in Transylvania were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In Transylvania (Romania) are about 150 church castles and fortified churches, at the time were built to defend against the Turks and Tatars incursions have been preserved in parts, very good condition. The fortified churches of the UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the south of Transylvania, between the rivers Large Kokel and old, in Burzenland and in the northern district of Bistrita. They were built by the Saxons, of Hungary and Székelys.
