Villaines-la-Juhel

Villa Ines la Juhel is a commune with 3025 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Mayenne in the Pays de la Loire; it belongs to the district of Mayenne and the canton of Villa Ines la Juhel.

History

In the Middle Ages, the lords of Mayenne built on a hill a castle to which developed the site. Aigilbert, Bishop of Le Mans, gave 692 the monastery of Sainte -Marie -half of the income of Villa Ines and other places. 892 is attested under the name of Villa Ines Vilhena.

1140 was Matilda of England Villa Ines the knight Juhel II of Mayenne; the place took its name. At that time a castle was built, today are only the foundations of the donjon of the. The Champagné family owned the place until the Revolution.
