Villard-de-Lans

Villard -de- Lans is a commune with 4038 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Isère, in the Rhône -Alpes. The capital of the canton of the same name is located approximately 19 kilometers southwest of Grenoble ( straight line ) on a plateau in the Vercors mountain range, flanked by the mountains Roc Cornafion (2049 m ) in the east and the Great Flycatcher ( 2284 m) in the south.

Tourism

Villard -de- Lans is known as a tourist destination. The site is adjacent to the Natural Park of Vercors. For this reason, the municipality pays attention to sustainable, soft mobility and is a member of the Alpine-wide cooperation Alpine Pearls. The ski area, which can also be reached from the neighboring village of Villard -en- Vercors and extends to an altitude of 2050 meters, has 125 km ski slopes. The network of cross-country skiing is about 130 km long. During the summer season, a golf course, two equestrian centers and numerous marked hiking and mountain bike trails are available. A little above the village is the holiday resort Le Balcon de Villard -Cote 2000.

In the years after 1938, the French state railway SNCF advertised with a poster by Roger Broders for the " children's paradise " Villard de Lens with children at the morning gym against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains.

During the Winter Olympics in 1968 were held in Villard -de- Lans, the competitions held in luge. After the temporary closure in 1994, the toboggan run was rebuilt; she now has a plastic covering that allows for year round operation.

Traffic

The nearest train station is about 35 km Grenoble distance. From 1920 to 1938 Villard -de- Lans was connected by an electric tram with Grenoble. Today, the EU urban and interurban transport is operated by coach and bus.

In 2006, the council decided to build a 6 km long cog railway that was to connect the village with the residential complex. To this end, the vehicles of the disused gear train Lausanne- Ouchy should be adopted. This decision, however, was canceled in 2008 because of high costs.
