Villard - d'Héria is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Villard - d'Héria Located at 650 meters above sea level. M., about 10 km west of the town of Saint- Claude ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, in the valley of Ruisseau d' Héria below the Lac d' Antre, at the western foot of the Roche d' Antre.

History

The territory of Villard - d'Héria was already inhabited during the Roman period. Here was the 1st and 2nd century AD a settlement and a temple complex that was probably abandoned shortly after the year 200. First excavations were conducted in 1698 at the instigation of Louis XIV.

Since the Middle Ages the two settlements Grand and Petit Villard Villard belonged to the dominion of the Abbey of Saint -Claude. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. In 1822 merged Grand and Petit Villard Villard Villard - d'Héria to the community.
