Ville-du-Pont

Ville- du- Pont is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ville- du- Pont is located on 782 m, about 15 km northeast of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the northern side of the valley of the Doubs, in the Val du Saugeais, at the northern foot of the Jura heights of Montagne du Larmont, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​15:02 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. On the left (north) side of the Doubs only just heard the immediate surroundings of the village to the church. The Doubs flows here in a relatively wide Talniederung to the northeast through the Val du Saugeais and enters below Ville- du- Pont in the Défilé d' Entre -Roches. It forms in this canyon -like section, which is accompanied on both sides by striking rock walls, the northern border. To the east and southeast, the municipality's area extends into the valley of Les Jarrons and on the adjacent Jura mountains ( Mont de Grand'Combe, 1020 m, Le Grand Bois ). The water-poor Jura plateaus are partly forested, partly consisted of pasture and have different troughs and crests on. The southern boundary runs along the ridge the Rochers du Cerf, on with 1199 m the highest peak of Ville- du- Pont is achieved. This ridge is part of the chain system of the Montagne du Larmont and falls to the south with a high cliff from the valley of the Thévenot.

At Ville- du- Pont addition to the actual site also includes several hamlets and numerous individual farms, including:

  • Spey (845 m) on an elevated site on the southern side of the valley of the Doubs

  • Les Ellais (902 m) on the plateau west of the Mont de Grand'Combe
  • Mont de Spey (937 m ) at the level of the south Doubstals
  • Les Rochettes ( 968 m) in a trough at the height south of the Doubstals
  • Combe Benoît ( 988 m) on the plateau north of the Rochers du Cerf

Neighboring municipalities of Ville- du- Pont are Hauterive- la- face, Montbenoît and La Longeville in the West, Les Combes in the north, Grand'Combe- Châteleu and Les Gras in the East as well as the Swiss town of La Brevine in the south.

History

In the Middle Ages Ville- du- Pont belonged to the monastic rule Montbenoît. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The single village chapel was built in the 17th century.

Population

With 296 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Ville- du- Pont is among the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 623 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Ville- du- Pont was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, farming ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are now several companies of local small businesses. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road D437 which leads from Pontarlier to Morteau. Further road links exist with La Longe Ville, Les Gras and Grand'Combe- Châteleu.
