Vin de Savoie AOC

The appellation Vin de Savoie denotes a red, rosé or white wine, the wine region Savoie.

Approved communities

The approved vineyards spread over the municipalities Apremont, Arbin, Barby, Billième, Le Bourget -du -Lac, Brison -Saint- Innocent, Challes -les -Eaux, Chignin, Chindrieux, Cruet, Francin, Fréterive, Jongieux, Lucey, Les Marches Montmélian, Motz, Myans, Ruffieux, Saint -Alban- Leysse, Saint- Baldoph, Saint- Germain- la- Chambotte, Saint- Jeoire - Prieuré Saint -Jean -de- la- Porte Saint -Jean -de- chevelu, Saint -Pierre- d'Albigny, Serrières -en- Chautagne and Yenne (all in the Savoie département ) and Ayse, Ballaison (only red), Bassy, Bonneville, Challonges, Chaumont, Chessenaz, Clara Fond- Arcine, Desingy, Douvaine ( only red), Frangy Franclens, Loisin (only red), Marignier, Marin, Massongy, Musièges, Publier, Sciez, Seyssel (only red), Thonon -les- Bains, Usinens, Vanzy and Ville -la-Grand (all in the Haute- Savoie). Since 4 September 1973, the appellation has the status of a Appellation d' Origine ( AOC short ).

The vineyards are located at an average altitude of about 250 to 560 meters above sea level, on slopes of the foothills of the Savoy Alps. Through a southern orientation of the slopes, the vines are protected from the cold north winds. During the night, cool air falls down from the heights and ensures the wine beneficial high enough temperature difference between day and night.

Varieties

In general, the yields for red wines at 62 hectoliters / hectare for white wine or rosé to 67 hectoliters / hectare are limited. Stricter rules apply to the 15 Crus; here, the limit is 60 hectoliters / hectare respectively 65 hectoliters / hectare.

The most important red grape varieties for red and rosé wines are Gamay, the variety Mondeuse as well as the Pinot Noir, which is called in France Pinot noir. The secondary varieties include Persan, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Étraire de la Dui, Servanin and Joubertin. The proportion of secondary varieties in a blend may not exceed the 10 % mark.

When white wine are the are the main places Aligoté, Altesse ( here called roussette ), Chardonnay, Breakfast Roter Veltliner, Jacquère and Mondeuse Blanche.
