Vince Gill

Vince Gill ( born April 12, 1957 in Norman, Oklahoma) is an American country singer. He is a 20-time Grammy Award - winner and now holds 2nd place behind Eric Clapton as a musician with the most Grammys and is 18x CMA Award - carrier is the only musician in the world.

Biography

Already in high school played Gill, who was also a talented golfer, in a country band. At 18, he became a member of the Bluegrass Alliance, who also played in Dan Crary. A year later he moved to Los Angeles, where he joined the band of Byron Berline Sundance joined. In LA, he met Janis Oliver, know his future wife, who soon became known on as a member of Sweethearts of the Rodeo.

In 1978 he was hired as the lead singer of the country-rock formation Pure Prairie League. But the group was not able to build on the successes of previous years, and so Gill got out after three years. With his wife and child, he moved to Nashville in 1982, where he Rodney Crowell band Cherry Bombs joined.

In 1984 his first single, Turn Me Loose. With the next plate, Victim Of Life's Circumstances he could first place in the charts. From the Academy of Country Music, he was awarded Best Young Singer of the Year 1984. In the following years he worked mostly as a session musician. He has mastered several instruments, sings and writes songs. Was particularly intense collaboration with Rosanne Cash, Rodney Crowell 's wife.

Gill's breakthrough came in 1989 with the album When I Call Your Name, which sold over a million copies. The title song reached # 3 on the country charts and was in 1990 awarded by the CMA as "Single Of The Year ". In the same year Vince Gill won a Grammy for "Best Country Vocal Performance." The success remained loyal to him in the following years. His next album Pocket Full Of Gold and I Still Believe In You also reached platinum status. Numerous single releases were able to place high in the country charts. His Christmas album Let There Be Peace On Earth achieved outstanding sales figures.

In 1998, the marriage ended in divorce with Janis Oliver. Two years later he married Amy Grant.

Vince Gill has a daughter from his first marriage, Jenny Gill. He lives in Nashville (Tennessee ), where he has a home studio set up by her albums Guitar Slinger and Bakersfield, as well as numerous other albums were recorded.

In September 2012, Gill was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame for an influential imprint of pop and country music as well as producer and guitarist.

Vince Gill has a penchant for Martin guitars, as well as for old Fender and Gibson guitars. 2010 were destroyed by a flood many different guitars and amplifiers. Gill currently has about 300 guitars.
