Vincent Bochdalek

Vincent Alexander Bochdalek (* 1801, † February 3, 1883 in Leitmeritz ) was a Czech anatomist. Bochdalek discovered a number of anatomical structures and abnormalities, which now bear his name.

Life

Bochdalek received in 1833 in Prague his doctorate, he was then at the University of Prague for several decades professor of anatomy. In 1874 he became Professor Emeritus and relocated to Leitmeritz in northern Bohemia. His son, Victor Bochdalek (1835-1868), also became a noted physician.

Named after Bochdalek are:

  • Bochdalek 's cyst: a congenital cyst of the tongue root, a vestige of the ductus thyroglossalis, the investment of the thyroid gland.
  • Bochdalek Blumenkörbchen: a part of the choroid plexus of the fourth ventricle, the vorstülpt through the foramen of Luschka.
  • Bochdalek gap: a muscle- free location in the diaphragm.
  • Bochdalek hernia: a hernia through the Bochdalek gap.
  • Bochdalek - hole: a congenital malformation in the diaphragm, which is an open connection between the chest and abdominal cavities.
  • Bochdalek ganglion: a ganglion of Rami alveolar nerve infraorbital above the root of the canine.
  • Bochdalek flap: a fold in the tear duct near the punctum.
