The Vindhyagebirge is up to 1100 meters high mountain in central India. It extends over approximately 1000 km in west-east direction from the extreme east of the state of Gujarat to Uttar Pradesh to the southeast. He runs mostly through Madhya Pradesh and parallel to the south Satpura range. In addition, it forms the northern boundary of the Deccan plateau. The southern slope of the trench of the river Narmada is steep, to the north the Vindhyagebirge falls gently from. Drained it is in the north by tributaries of the Ganges, in the south of the Narmada.

The Vindhya plateau is north of the center section of the Vindhyagebirges located. The two largest cities in Madhya Pradesh, Indore and Bhopal the capital, are located there.
