Vindö

Vindö -yachts were built by the Nötesunds Varv AB on Henån in Sweden. The Nötesunds Varv AB does not exist anymore, but the countless still well preserved Langkieler the brand " Vindö " are still maintained and restored to Henån. Today the Vindö Marin AB takes over this work.

The boat builder Carl Andersson was the founder of the shipyard. He was in Kungsviken - born - one of the most important boat building centers in Sweden. His father and grandfather built ships, especially massive, stäbige fishing boats made ​​of oak.

From 1926 Carl Andersson started on their own wooden boats, especially pilot boats and leisure boats to build on Henån, initially under the name " Sundsandvik Båtvarv ". In the early 1960s, his son Karl -Erik the company, which was called from this time " Nötesunds Varv AB ". 1961 was built the first " Vindö ": the Vindö 28 (8m x 2,35 m, 28m ²). From this comes the Vindö of designation of the yachts. The number at the end of the boat name is not as usual for the length in feet, but they referred to the sail area in square meters.

In 1963 the well-known and one of the most popular Vindös the " Vindö 30" ( 9m x 2.42 m ) and the small " Vindö 18 ' (6m x 2.10m ). Both yachts were first made ​​entirely of wood, then later manufactured with GRP hull and timber structures. In 1964 the " Vindö 22 " as the little sister of "30".

Over time, the " Vindö 30" developed a bestseller and about 50% of the yachts were exported - mainly to Germany. 1966 drew Carl Andersson " Vindö 50 ". From about this time, all yachts were made ​​with fiberglass fuselage. In 1971 the " Vindö 40 ". The " 40 " became a best seller and still exist many well -preserved specimens. In 1973, the " Vindö 32 " as an evolution of the " 30" ( 8,90 m x 2,75 m ). It had been developed as a low cost alternative to the " Vindö 40 ". In collaboration with a foreign manufacturer of hulls ( Corsair / Bowman ) 1975 was the " Vindö Corsair 75 " with the typical interior of a Vindö. The " Vindö 65 " (11.65 m x 3.65 m ) and the " Vindö 90 ' ( 13m x 3,95 m ) rounded out the assortment.

Carl Andersson died in 1979 and only a year later, the yard in front of bankruptcy. By selling these was first shot blocked. 1981 " Vindö 45 " was presented ( 10,20 m x 3,33 m). The " Vindö 45 " was a full-blown cruising yacht. She was taller and wider than their predecessors. But even the " Vindö 45 " could not stop the imminent bankruptcy of the shipyard. A short time later, the last Vindö new building left the shipyard halls.
