Vinicio Cerezo

Marco Vinicio Cerezo Arévalo ( born December 26, 1942 in Guatemala City ) is a Guatemalan politician. He was 1986-1990 President of the Republic of Guatemala.

Arévalo studied law at the Universidad San Carlos de Guatemala and in the Federal Republic of Germany and Italy. Already during his studies he was politically active as president of the Christian Democratic student organization from 1964 to 1966 and occurred shortly after graduation of the Christian- Democratic Party of Guatemala ( DCG ) at. From 1968 he worked as a lawyer and as head of the Organization Department of the DCG.

1974 to 1978 he was a member of Congress since 1976 and General Secretary of the DCG. The winner of the mayoral elections in the capital, Guatemala City in 1978 and the parliamentary elections of 1982 was brought about by electoral fraud for the win. In the elections to the Constituent Assembly of 1984, the DCG achieved the best result of antretenden parties and gains in the parliamentary elections on November 3, 1985 even the absolute majority.
