Vinicius de Moraes

Marcus Vinícius da Cruz de Melo Moraes, short Vinícius de Moraes (* October 19, 1913 in Gávea, † July 9, 1980 in Rio de Janeiro) was a Brazilian poet, guitarist, and diplomat.

Life

He wrote many, especially in South America known works and poems; among other things, he wrote the template for the film Orfeu Negro, as well as the text to Baden Powell de Aquino composition Berimbau and various bossa nova pieces by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Its probably best known work are the Portuguese text lines to the classic Garota de Ipanema ( The Girl from Ipanema ).
