The Violet Crown nymph ( Thalurania colombica ), also called crown nymph, is a species of bird in the family of hummingbirds.

Description

The males of the violet crown nymph is about 10 cm, females about 8 cm. The male is colored lustrous dark green on the head and back. The stomach and the upper part of the wings are dark blue shiny. The long beak, tail feathers, forehead, legs and shoulders are black.

The females of the species are at the head of bluish green colored on the back of the blue temporarily. The wings are colored blue and running towards the end to black. The breast is gray, dyed the green belly.

Lifestyle and dissemination

The amount of ingested daily amount of food - especially flower nectar - corresponds to about 50 % of body weight. The species occurs in the moist forests and forest edges from Mexico to Colombia and western Venezuela. In the cool nights, the birds fall to reduce their high energy needs in a kind of hibernation. Brood
