Virachai Virameteekul

Virachai Virameteekul (Thai: วีระ ชัย วีระ เมธี กุล, Wīrachạy wīrameṭhīkul born July 8, 1967) is a Thai university professor, managers and politicians.

Family and Education

He was born the son of Suchai and Sumali Virameteekul. In 1985 he completed his studies at Boston University, USA with a BSBA from, and gained the year after an MBA from Clark University. At Chulalongkorn University Virachai his doctorate at the Faculty of Business Administration ( Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy ) and obtained in 1994 his PhD degree.

Career

As a high school teacher

After receiving his doctorate in business administration Virameteekul began his professional life as a professor at the Business School, Chulalongkorn and taught simultaneously at many universities as a visiting professor, such as at the Dhurakij - Pundit University, Bangkok University, Assumption University and Thammasat University.

In the private sector

After 4 years as a university professor, he finished in 1994 his work in the civil service and thus left the academic world. His father, Suchai Virameteekul, an experienced Thai - Chinese businessman, the company maintains close ties with larger size in China, was asked at the same time to invest in the Chinese banking industry and the financial institutions. Virachai occurred at the turn of Chinese capitalism as Deputy Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TM International Bank and most recently served as Vice President of Business Development Bank in Shanghai.

Political career

Entry

In 2000, he joined the party Thai Rak Thai (TRT ) of Thaksin Shinawatra. Thaksin government

In the cabinet of Thaksin Shinawatra, he was Vice Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, then Deputy Minister of Finance, and finally Deputy Foreign Minister.

Surayud government

When General Surayud Chulanont after the military coup in September 2007, the deposed Thaksin, took office, Virachai was appointed Deputy Secretary for policy. He was responsible for political affairs of the country as well as for cooperation with the appointed National Legislative Assembly.

Appointment as Minister

20 December 2008 Virachai Virameteekul minister in the Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva 's office. He took the head of government in the Committee on the Public Sector Development, the Secretariat of the Cabinet, in the Thai village fund and the Advisory Council on National Economy and Social Affairs. In August 2011, the Abhisit government was replaced as a result of the 2011 general election by the government of Yingluck Shinawatra.
