Virgilio Savona

Antonio Virgilio Savona ( born December 21, 1919 in Palermo, † August 27, 2009 in Milan ) was an Italian composer, arranger and singer.

Savona artistic career began in childhood; the age of 6 he started singing in a choir little later and had already 10 years his first radio appearance. After finishing school, he enrolled at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia to study piano. In 1941 he replaced Iacopo Jacomelli in vocal quartet Quartetto Egie. After some name changes to Quartetto Ritmo Quartetto Cetra, and finally his wife Lucia Mannucci was (* 1922), whom he had married in 1944, as a replacement for Enrico De Angelis 1947 Member of the group. Another member was Felice Chiusano ( 1923-1990 ).

Savona was the composer and arranger of the group; Texter was the fourth member, Tata Giacobetti ( 1922-1988 ). Their collaboration extended over four decades and brought hundreds of new songs produced. In addition, Savona wrote music and sometimes scripts for radio and television programs, stage shows and movies. During the 1970s, he was extremely active as a pianist and conductor, conductor, arranger and producer. Finally, he took care of the preservation and maintenance of traditional songs. An own label, I dello Zodiaco Dischi, he had founded with Armando Scascia 1969. In 1991 he wrote an autobiographical book about the Quartetto Cetra embossed, which was also published in English (for " Sperling & Kupfer ").
