Viru Prison

Viru Vangla ( German " Viru Prison ") is a high-security prison in the Estonian Ida- Viru. The prison is located in the east of the city Jõhvi. It is supervised by the Estonian Ministry of Justice.

Construction

Viru Vangla was inaugurated on 29 July 2008 as the most modern of the five prisons in the Republic of Estonia. The construction took almost two years. The construction costs were kroons (approx. EUR 76.7 million ) at 1.2 billion.

Viru Vangla meets the standards of the European Union, which Estonia joined in 2004.

Prisoners

The 14 buildings of the prison can accommodate 1,000 prisoners and 75 day release. In addition, 150 detention cells of the Estonian police. Part of the Gefänisses is a youth detention center. The total area of the complex is 16 acres.

The detention center currently employs 350 employees, of which nearly 250 correctional officers. In addition to sports opportunities Viru Vangla jobs and training opportunities for prisoners. In addition, there is a church, rooms for social workers and training rooms.
