Prince Alfred Hirsch

The Prince Alfred deer ( Cervus rusa alfredi or alfredi ) is a mammal of the deer family ( Cervidae ). The endemic species in the Philippines is named after Prince Alfred, son of Queen Victoria and one of the rarest species of deer in the world. In the Visayas, the name Usa and Lagsaw be used for the Prince Alfred Hirsch.

Features

The fine, very dense coat of this deer is colored dark brown. Characteristic are the bright spots, which extend along the back and flanks and forwards become smaller. Distribution and habitat

Prince Alfred deer live in rain forests belonging to the Philippines Visayas Islands. On many islands of their original distribution area, including Cebu, Bohol and Masbate they are extinct. Way of life

Threat
