Visconde de Maua is a village in the district of Resende in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. It consists of the villages of Maua, Maringá and Maromba and the surrounding valleys Vale das Cruzes, Vale do Alcantilado, Vale do Pavão and Vale da Grama. The river Rio Preto is the limit for the state of Minas Gerais, which is why a part of the region is one of Bocaina de Minas.

History

The name Visconde de Maua goes back to the Baron ( Visconde ) Irineu Evangelista de Sousa, who received land in 1870 as a concession for forestry in the year.
