Vitexin is a naturally occurring yellow chemical compound. When 8-C - glucosyl apigenin Vitexin is a derivative of apigenin, a plant pigment from the group of flavonoids. The C -glycoside is strictly speaking not a genuine glycoside, however, is often attributed to this group. Vitexin acts like many other antioxidant flavonoids. In isolated form is a crystalline powder.
Occurrence
Vitexin occurs in the passion flower and often in hawthorn leaves. It was also in the leaves of some species of bamboo and in Knöterichen ( Persicaria ), rye (Secale cereale ) and detected in the seeds of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum -graecum ).
Structurally related
An isomer of Vitexins is the isovitexin ( apigenin -6 -C -glucoside ).
