Vítor Alves

Vítor Alves ( born September 30, 1935 in Mafra, † January 9, 2011 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese army officer and politician.

Following the High School Alves came in 1954 in the military academy. He served initially in Portugal, then from 1958 to 1963 in Mozambique and from 1963 to 1970 in Angola.

As an opponent of the Estado Novo, he was co-founder of the Movimento forcas Armadas (MFA ), from whose district the overthrow of the Salazar regime was prepared. As a member of the Coordination Commission of the MFA Otelo Saraiva de Carvalho and next to Vasco Lourenço he became one of the pioneers of the Carnation Revolution of April 1974.

After the coup, he led the information policy of the Armed Forces Movement. Beginning in October 1974 brought him Prime Minister Gonçalves as a minister without portfolio in his cabinet. There he was responsible for information policy, social communication and defense.

Alves is buried in the Cemitério dos Olivais.
