Vitry-en-Perthois

Vitry -en- Perthois is a commune with 876 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Marne, in the Champagne -Ardenne region. It belongs to the district Vitry -le- François and the Canton of Vitry- le -François- Est. The village lies on the banks of the River Saulx.

History

Vitry was burned down in 1142 by the army of King Louis VII and in 1544 by the army of Emperor Charles V. Since then the place " Vitry -le- Brûlé " was called. King Francis I ordered its reconstruction, but at a slightly different location, the new location was named Vitry -le- François.
