Vittorio Giannini

Vittorio Giannini (* October 19, 1903 in Philadelphia, † November 28, 1966 in New York City ) was an American composer of Italian descent.

Giannini studied due to a scholarship in 1912 in Milan at the conservatory. In 1917 he returned to New York City and continued his studies and graduated from the Juilliard School of Music. He lived in Europe, where his operas have had great success before he settled in 1939 in New York. He taught at the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School and the Curtis Institute. Giannini composed operas next four symphonies, other orchestral works, choral works and piano pieces. Best known for his opera The Taming of the Shrew ( The Taming of the Shrew, 1953).
