Vittorio Monti

Vittorio Monti ( born January 6, 1868 in Naples, † June 20, 1922 ) was an Italian violinist and composer.

Life

Monti studied violin and composition in Naples at the Conservatorio di San Pietro a Majella. In 1900 he received an appointment as conductor of the Lamoureux Orchestra in Paris. In later years, he devoted himself more to the violin and mandolin; both instruments, he also taught for the mandolin, he wrote also a textbook.

Work

Vittorio Monti wrote several ballets and operettas. His only become famous piece of music is the Czardas, a popular virtuoso piece that is any gypsy music chapel in the repertoire. Besides Montis original composition that is written for solo mandolin or violin with piano or orchestral accompaniment ( the dedicatee Juliette Dantin was a violinist ), now are numerous adaptations for various solo instruments and ensembles in circulation.
