VL Humu

The VL Humu was a 1944 from the Finnish state aircraft company Valtion lentokonetehdas built fighter aircraft of the Finnish Air Force.

History

The decision to build the Humu was based on the low with 44 pieces Number of Brewster F2A the Finnish Air Force. Torsti Verkkola, Arvo Ylinen and Martti Vainio should manage the project. The Air Force originally ordered 90 aircraft of this type, but after the construction of the first copy, production was discontinued. The aircraft was given the identifier HM -671 and the first flight took place on 8 August 1944.

Construction

The Humu based on the American Brewster F2A. It was built because of the scarcity of metals largely made ​​of wood. The basic structure was still made ​​of steel and was heavily based on the design of the template of Brewster. She was 250 kg heavier than calculated, the engine is too weak and the plane corresponded to a total of not standard fighter of the year 1944.

Use

The HM -671 flew a total of 19 hours and 50 minutes. The fully restored HM- 671 is now on display in the Aviation Museum of Central Finland.
