Vladimir of Horbowski - Zaranek (which is only called in Germany Vladimir Horbowski ) came from a family Polish and Ukrainian- Georgian nobility, who left her home as a result of the October Revolution in 1921 and went into exile in Brussels. After studying at the Conservatory, he moved to Berlin, there was a pupil and assistant of Leonid Kreutzer and belonged to the circle around Ferruccio Busoni; Rachmaninoff also he played before. Again and again declared Horbowski later that he owes these personalities the most lasting artistic promotion and mental stimulation.

Since the highly gifted pianist concert career was denied by an accident in his youth, he soon turned to the educational work. As a cruiser was sold in 1933 by the Nazis from his teaching post and emigrated to Japan, Horbowski took over the piano class at the Berlin Academy of Music. From 1934 to 1945 he also directed a piano class at the Berlin Klindworth - Scharwenka Conservatory. He developed a method of teaching that inspired his students concentrated practice to learn the original text of compositions by heart and devote most accurate attention especially the phrasing, dynamics and pedaling. In addition, "invented" it kind of fingerings, which makes it possible to interpret pianism intricate pieces without technical tension.

After the Second World War Horbowski was appointed professor of piano at the Stuttgart Musikhochschule. There his teaching was the epitome of pianistic training, starting up the study of concert literature all mediated by Bartók microcosm of what is required of technical skill and stylistic knowledge. From all over the world came to Stuttgart pianist to reconsider under his guidance the art of playing the piano again from scratch and to get his advice. Great is the number of its students who won prizes and awards in international competitions, were known as a concert pianist or as respected educators teach at conservatories and music colleges. Horbowskis musical taste and sound judgment were estimated using the borders of Germany; several times he was a member of the Jury for the piano in the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, one of the world's most important music competitions.

After his retirement Horbowski moved to Munich, where he was for a long time as a teacher and advisor to many pianists and died in his 85th year of life after severe suffering.
