Vladimir Nazlymov

Vladimir Aliwerowitsch Naslymow (Russian: Владимир Аливерович Назлымов; born 1 November 1945 in Makhachkala, Dagestan ) is a former Soviet saber and three -time Olympic champion of Tatar nationality.

In his youth he trained with the fencing team of CSKA Moscow. In the Red Army, he attained the rank of colonel.

He took part in 1968 with the Soviet saber team at the Olympic Games in Mexico City and won the gold medal there. This success with the team he managed to repeat in 1976 and 1980. In Munich in 1972, he was with the team in second place.

In the individual competitions, he was very successful. After the individual competition still finished in fourth place in Mexico City, he won the bronze medal in Munich and Montreal silver. 1980 in Moscow, he was eighth.

Naslymow also participated in numerous World Championships and is ten times the fencing world champion.

After his playing career, he was active as a fencing coach for many years. He oversaw the Soviet military fencing team from 1976 to 1990 1991. Moved Naslymow with his family in the United States and trained there, among other things, the U.S. National Team from 1994 to 1999. In 1999 he went to Ohio State University where he was very a successful fencing program built.

In Columbus, Ohio, he founded the Fencing Club Fencing Alliance of Ohio.
