VLF Transmitter Cutler

The Navy radio station Cutler is one of the largest VLF transmitters of the earth and plays an important role in the transmission of messages to submerged submarines. Located in Cutler, Maine, USA plant in which all antenna beams are grounded, went on 4 January 1961 in operation and has 2 VLF antenna systems.

Each of these antenna systems consists of a 304 -meter-high central mast, six 266.7 -meter-high masts ring at a distance of 556 meters and six 243.5 -meter-high masts ring at a distance of 935.7 meters. Is in each case an antenna system, the feed is carried in the vicinity of the center between the central tower mast, two inner ring pole and an outer ring pole. The transmit power of the system, which is operated at 17.8 kHz and 24 kHz, a maximum of 1800 kW. The masts of the Navy radio station are surrounded by free-standing steel lattice towers. At least one of the poles has a free-standing lattice tower as a base.
