Vlorë County

The Vlorë County (Albanian Qarku i Vlores ) is one of twelve Qarks in Albania. It is located in southern Albania and has an area of ​​2706 km ². The capital is Vlorë.

Geography

The Vlorë County consists of three circles Delvina, and Saranda Vlora. They extend along the coast of the Adriatic and the Ionian Sea in particular with the Albanian Riviera. In the south, bordering the Qark to Greece. Along the Ionian Sea, the coast is steep with high mountains in the hinterland. The Shushica flows through the northern part of the Qarks, in the southern it is the Bistrica. Other notable waters north of the city of Vlora Lagoon Narta and in the far south to Greece out of Butrintsee. Sazan is one of the few islands of Albania and is also managed by the Vlorë County.

North of the Qarks is the Qark Fier and in the east of Qark Gjirokastra.

Population

The Qark has according to the National Statistics Institute Instituti i Statistikës 211 734 inhabitants (2009 ). The 2011 census, however, only covered 184 279 inhabitants. The decline in population of not quite 5% in ten years is far below the average Albanian.

In the southern part of this region, there is a Greek-speaking minority, in the circles Delvina and Saranda as well as the Albanian Riviera.

Politics and Administration

The Qark Council ( Alb. Këshilli i Qarkut ) counts 59 members, the majority of which belong to the Democratic Party, holding the chair with Ylli Piro.

The Vlorë County provides twelve Members of a total of 140 for the 2009 and 2013 legislative sessions beginning of the Albanian parliament
