Vogues of 1938

For you, Madame ... ( original title Vogues of 1938, Walter Wanger 's Vogues of 1938) is an American musical film directed by Irving Cummings from the year 1938.

Action

George Curson is owner of one of New York's hottest fashion houses, until the day on which he denied Wendy Van burdock ring the desire to postpone the delivery of her wedding dress. Wendy wants the stinking rich but boring Henry Morgan but not married and trying to get out of the marriage. When her wish is not fulfilled, it still leaves Morgan. Curson thinks nothing of it, he has other worries: Cursons wife, the former actress Mary, is pushing for the catwalk. His star designer Sophie Miller has an assistant named Betty, who is married to the would-be designer Prince Muratov. This even tried to establish himself as fashion designers foot. This is Morgan just right, who wants revenge that has left him his future wife. So he builds a fashion house for Muratov. This in turn makes Betty steal the latest design from Sophie.

Muratov is now trying a long-standing customer of Curson named Mrs. George Curtis Lemke to persuade her to wear "his" creations at a show. Background

For you, Madame ... is an early Technicolorfilm. Walter Wanger, producer of the film wanted to make a film like 1934, because he had taken at this time Frances Langford under contract. As one of the first who had left turn a color film with fight in the mountains, he waited, however, that the procedure was refined. In fact, then scenes were filmed with Langford which it does not make it into the final film.

The musical combines elements of love film with the film comedy. The film received two Oscar nominations, one for Best Production Design and once for Best Song. He was nominated the song That Old Feeling by Shep Fields.

Criticism

The magazine Variety praised the script of the musical, the recall of more than a libretto to a musical. In addition, the script would reveal many secrets of the fashion industry.
