Vojtech Zamarovský
Vojtech Zamarovský ( born October 5, 1919 in Zamarovce in Trenčín, † July 26, 2006 in Prague) was a Slovak historian, writer and translator. He is considered the co-founder of the non-fiction literature in Czechoslovakia. In his works, he devoted himself to the oldest human history and the popularization of prehistoric civilizations and myths.
Life
After attending high school in Trenčín (German Trenčín ), he moved to his graduation in 1938 to Prague, where he studied at the Higher School of Economics. A year later he moved to Bratislava, where he runs wide remote study of economics and studied law, in which he received his doctorate in 1943. Until 1946 he worked at the Slovenská Národná banka (Slovak National Bank) to 1951 in the Office of Government Chairman in Prague and to 1953 in the State Planning Office. In the same year he was forced to resign for political reasons. He gets a job with the Státní nakladatelství krásné literatury ( " State Publishing House of the belles lettres "). He begins it with translations of technical books but also fiction. After 1956, he makes himself as a translator independently and later published his own works. In 1977 he signed the Anti Charter. Towards the end of his life he suffered from Parkinson's disease and spent the last two months of his life in a coma.
Works
His first works are books about business, technical articles, reviews, epilogues and studies. His first book was commissioned by the publisher Mladé letá. It was a historic travelogue through Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt and ancient Greece. By further autodidactic study of works of art, buildings originated story you more historic and popular works on ancient cultures. He created more copies than mere descriptions and thereby placed special emphasis on aesthetics. In addition to the historic architecture and art history, he also wrote books on ancient mythology, historical discoveries and personal descriptions, especially archaeologists such as Heinrich Schliemann. Each book deals with an interesting outline of the history, where he also knows how difficult issues pictorially and interesting display.
He translated besides from English, French, Latin, and German and worked on some television productions over the ancient times. His fourteen books have been translated into fourteen languages , of which a total of over two million copies were sold.
