Volatility (chemistry)
Volatility ( and volatility or evaporation rate ) is a dimensionless relative indicator which describes the evaporation of a solvent.
Evaporation rate
In Germany, the evaporation rate (VD ) is determined according to DIN 153170. By definition, the volatility is given as a ratio of the vapor pressure of the considered material to the vapor pressure of the volatile reference substance diethyl ether ( this at 20 ° C and 65 ± 5 % relative humidity):
Evaporation rate
In the U.S., the evaporation rate is (E ) over time and in relation to butyl acetate determined.
= evaporates with time, up to 90% of the sample.
