Volta River Authority

The Volta River Authority (VRA ) is the major producer and distributor of electric power in Ghana. It is based in the capital, Accra, the language of business of the company is English.

The VRA was established on April 26, 1961 by law by the Volta River Development Act.

The VRA is the charge generation and distribution of electrical energy. In 1970, the Volta Lake Transport Company [ VLTC ] was founded, whose ships are used for freight and passenger transport on the Volta Lake.

In addition, the VRA involved in the area of the Volta dam for environmental projects, the expansion of the health service and education.

In the 1960s, the VRA was responsible for the resettlement of 80,000 people whose villages were flooded by the Lake Volta.
