Vostok (crater)

Vostok is an impact crater on Mars. It has a diameter of about 20 meters and is located on the plateau Meridiani Planum within the MC -19 margaritifer sine degree field. It is located about 1,200 meters south of Endeavour Crater. The crater appears to be almost completely filled with quicksand. However, there are many rock outcrops visible on the surface. The Mars Rover Opportunity reached the crater on 8 March 2005 (sol 339 ). During his investigations Opportunity explored the rock Gagarin, named after cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, and formed from the soil sample Laika. The rover left Vostok in the south and moved to the Erebus. The Mini- TES the rover fell from near the Vostok crater, but the malfunction soon disappeared again.
