The Vourinos (Greek Βούρινος also Μπούρινος ( m. sg. ) ) Is a mountain range in the Greek region of Western Macedonia. It extends over 30 km from northwest to southeast. Its highest peak, Drisinikos ( Ντρισινίκοs ) reaches 1866 m. The Vourinos is drained by the river and its tributaries Aliakmona. While the north-facing slopes and lower regions are forested, south-facing slopes and higher regions are mainly covered by grassland. Adjacent mountain ranges are Siniatsiko ( Askio ) in the north and Kamvounia in the southeast.

The next communities are Chromio in the east, Paleokastro in the northwest and in the southwest Pontini. Larger cities are Grevena Kozani to the west and the northeast. The Aftokinitodromos 2 ( Highway 2 or Egnatia Odos ) from Igoumenitsa via Ioannina, Kozani, Thessaloniki to Alexandroupoli and the Ethniki Odos 20 ( National Road 20) of Kozani on Konitsa to Ioannina run along its northern borders.

History

In the history of mountain played a role as one of two exit points of the Greek - Macedonian uprising in the spring of 1878. Insurrection was against the provisions of the Treaty of San Stefano and called on the connection of the Ottoman Macedonia to Greece.

Walking routes

Designated hiking trails lead into the gorge of Chantaka ( Φαράγγι Χάντακας ) at Εani and Chromio from the Drisinikos, the highest peak.
