Vrančice

Vrančice ( German Wrantschitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located nine kilometers south of Pribram and belongs to Příbram.

Geography

Vrančice is located in the hill country Příbramská pahorkatina. To the north rise the Machačov ( 571 m) and the Vranč (608 m), in the west the Bukovka (550 m). East of Vrančice runs the main road I / 4 between Pribram and Strakonice.

Neighboring towns are Lešetice, Milín and Kojetin in the north, Kotalík and Rtišovice in the northeast, Životice in the east, Myslovice, Cmin, Pečice, Hvižďour and Zbenice the southeast, Těchařovice, Kletice, Svojšice, Tušovice and Tušovičky in the south, Horejany, Podtochovice and Tochovice in southwest, Ostrovský Mlýn and Ostrov in the west and Hora, Kamenná and Lazsko in the northwest.

History

Archaeological finds indicate a prehistoric settlement in the area. The Březnická teacher František Josef Hykes discovered in 1897 in the former municipality wood on quarry near Horejany a cremation cemetery from the late Hallstatt period. During the construction of the road between Horejany and Vrančice at the junction of the road to Těchařovice a Slavic hill grave with three skeletons and rich offerings, and three other tombs body was found in 1949. In Myslovice in 1976 and 1989 during excavations found the remains of a Late Hallstatt settlement site. In Životice a settlement site of La Tène period was discovered.

The first written mention of the village Wrantsicz took place in 1253 as a possession of the Cross with the Red Star. In 1333 the Order sold the property to Přibík of Obděnice. Vrančice belonged to the southern part of the mountain Příbram mining area. In the hills to the west and northwest of the village are abandoned mines.
