Vrmac

Geographical location

Vrmac ( Serbian: Врмац ) is a towering 710 meters peninsula in the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro.

Relief

The Vrmac peninsula is wedge-shaped between the basins of Kotor and Tivat and closes with the narrow and at the narrowest point only 330 meters wide strait Verige the inner bays of Risan and Kotor. The peninsula is composed of flysch facies and therefore shows interesting erosive through small valleys in particular of Kotor from a special contrast to the opposite high karst represents. The steep relief prevents a stronger settlement. The Coppice forests are particularly influenced by Macchien.

Colonization

The Vrmac peninsula is only sparsely populated today. On the shores are the towns of Tivat, Lepetane, Stoliv, Prčanj and inside the villages of Gornja Lastva and Donja Lastva.

Traffic

Opened in 2007 Vrmac tunnel plays an important role for the transport links of the Bay of Kotor to Tivat, because before the construction of the tunnel only a winding narrow mountain pass through the Vrmac and an even narrower road at the foot of Vrmac along the Bay of Kotor existed.
