Vulture

The name Vulture is in the German language, a common name for a number of, mostly large and very large species of birds of prey, which usually predominantly or exclusively eat carrion. The species referred to as " vultures " belong to different systematic groups that are only very distantly related to each other to some extent. So you do not form a monophyletic group.

As a " Vultures " are referred to:

  • Of the family Accipitridae the species of the subfamily of the Old World vulture ( Aegypiinae ), occurring in Europe, Africa and Asia
  • Three out of four species of the subfamily Gypaetinae to which, among other things the bearded vulture belongs.
