Vytautas Magnus bridge or Aleksotas Bridge is the bridge opened in 1948 in Kaunas, one kilometer above the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris, near Vytautas Magnus Church. The bridge connects the district Aleksotas with the Kaunas Old Town and 256 meters long. Cross the bridge and go 3000 vehicles per hour.

History

The Grande Armée of Napoleon built in connection with the invasion of Russia in 1812 several ship bridges over the Nemunas. 1915 built the German army a wooden bridge, which was replaced in 1930 by a bridge with a superstructure of four rod arches. Named after Vytautas Magnus bridge was destroyed in 1941. From 1946 to 1948, the modern steel girder bridge was built, which has a lifting part in the middle. In 2005, the bridge was renovated and provided with a new lighting.
