W. Brian Arthur

William Brian Arthur (* 1945 in Belfast, Northern Ireland ) is a British economist, professor at the Santa Fe Institute and a visiting researcher at the Intelligent Systems Lab ( Xerox PARC ). One focus of his research are complex adaptive systems.

Life

In 1969 Arthur a Masters degree in Mathematics at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1973 and a Ph.D. in Operations Research at the University of California, Berkeley.

From 1983 to 1996 Arthur Professor of Human Biology at Stanford University was in Stanford ( California). At times, he was also Dean and Professor of Population Studies and Economics.

From 1988 to 2006 he was a member of the scientific committee ( Science Board ) at the Santa Fe Institute from 1994 to 2004 at the local Trustee Committee (Board of Trustees ) from 1987 to 1990 and from 1994 to 1995 director of the program in economics.
