Waben

Honeycomb is a municipality with 430 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Pas -de- Calais in the Nord-Pas -de- Calais region in northern France.

Geography

Honeycomb is on an average height of 27 meters above sea level, 103 kilometers southwest of Lille, the capital of the Nord-Pas -de- Calais region, and 5 kilometers south-east from the cantonal capital of Berck. The hamlet of La Madelon is located at the mouth of authie in the English Channel on the south western edge of the township.

History

In honeycomb artifacts have been discovered dating from the 5th and 6th centuries. This includes a primer, a belt buckle and various vessels of glass.

In the Middle Ages honeycomb had a significant commercial and fishing port. However, over the centuries, the harbor silted up. It is now used as a recreational harbor.

1793 received honeycomb in the wake of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ) the status of a municipality and was chief town of a canton. 1801 received the community through administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte ( 1769-1821) the right to local self-government and became part of the canton of Montreuil, in 1991 she was assigned to the then newly formed Canton of Berck.

Culture and sights

The fishing boat Toute Seule la Marianne is the reconstruction of a particular historical type of Norman fishing boats, called Cordier. It was built in 1992 by order of the city Berck and won in the same year a competition for coastal boats in Brest. The boat is 5.7 meters long, 2.7 meters high and has three cusps, with a total of about 40 square meters. From May to August is the ship for tourist, cultural and educational excursions available, it can take 8 people each.

In the church of Notre- Dame-de -la- Nativity is a baptismal font from the 16th century, which was classified in 1908 as a monument historique ( historic monument ').
